IDA World Congress 2011

9 September 2011 in Infrastructure & Environment

RPC Technologies - Industrial attended the recent International Desalination Association (IDA) World Congress 2011 that was held at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on the 4-9th September, 2011. The Congress had over 100 exhibitors and nearly 1200 delegates from 21 countries around the world attending.

The Congress theme was - Desalination: Sustainable Solutions for a Thirsty Planet.

Key note speakers included Richard Branson (yes the Virgin Richard Branson, whose companies have taken on investments in desalination in the Caribbean), Philip Cousteau (grandson of Jacques Cousteau), and Sue Murphy (CEO of Water Corporation WA). Sustainability in desalination was highlighted by the key note speakers in particular. An impressive statistic was that the consumed energy per litre of water produced has decreased significantly from each major urban desalination plant in Australia to the next. Another sustainability theme was the likely emphasis on future desalination plants on the efficient dispersion and dilution of the brine discharge stream, minimising impact on marine ecosystems. This trend points towards a worldwide adoption of solutions similar to those manufactured by RPC Technologies for Perth, Gold Coast, Sydney, Adelaide and Victoria Desalination plants for brine discharge risers and dispersion nozzles.

RPC Technologies attendance was to showcase their expertise and unique experience in design, and manufacture of GRP intake and discharge structures and riser pipes for desalination projects for the international market, as well as their general GRP pipe design, manufacture and installation capabilities for the Australasian market place. Leads were discovered for desalination plants awaiting final investment decision that may require GRP risers.

It was also a great opportunity to catch up with valuable existing desalination and water customers including AquaSure, Degremont, Acciona, United Group, Brookfield Multiplex, Worley Parsons, AECOM and Hatch.

Attending from RPC were Eric Crooke, Peter Groch and Simon Karpeles.

RPC Technologies’ stand was an improvement in appearance and efficiency from our previous industrial trade show efforts, thanks to RPC’s new Marketing Coordinator, Elena Zaballero.
