8 October 2010 saw the first of four risers for the Victorian Desalination Project transported from RPC’s new Geelong facility to Lascelles Wharf, Geelong.
RPC has been contracted to manufacture two intake and two outlet risers for the project.
The risers, which measure approximately 30.0m long and 2.8m outside diameter, comprise heavy wall thick GRP pipe encased over the top section, within a steel sleeve. The annulus between the GRP and steel is filled with grout. Gross shipping weight of the riser is 92,000kg.
Completion and transport of the riser marks the first major milestone for the Geelong facility and the RPC work force.
