RPC enters Renewable Energy Market - Tidal Energy

11 May 2011 in Infrastructure & Environment

Elemental Energy Technology, RPC Technologies and ATSA have recently generated a peak 2 kilowatt of power from their conjunctly developed tidal turbine generator: the Sea Urchin 550.This test was conducted at Forgacs in Newcastle (Australia) before a group of international investors and China, Japan and India licensees on the 5th of April 2011

This milestone marked the successful completion of 6 months of design work and manufacturing of the first prototype.

The geometry of the housing has been defined through Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis to achieve the best flow velocity through the device.

RPC Technologies carried on the design of the composites structure housing the generator, using leading edge Finite Element Analysis to create a light weight and cost effective prototype. The turbine is a robust foam filled GRP shell able to withstand high currents.

The manufacture of the prototype was carried out in our Broadmeadow facility (NSW, Australia) using RPC know-how and best manufacturing practices with Glass/Vinylester system.
